aSpecified in international contracts.
bSimilar, but not identical to FOSFA or other specified method (opportunity for “harmonization” or
adoption of ISO, BS, or other specified method).
cIdentical to FOSFA or other specified method.

NOTES
1 In 1992, the AOCS adopted the ISO slip method as AOCS Official Method, Cc 3b-92 declared AOCS Official
Method, Cc 4-25 obsolete changed the title of AOCS Official Method, Cc 3-25 from “Softening Point” to “Slip
Point, AOCS Standard” and noted the application of Cc 3-25 to palm oil.
2 Identical with FOSFA method, except for the FOSFA specification to homogenize the whole sample and to carry out
the analysis on the unfiltered sample, especially for crude oils with a sediment or haze. The AOCS version is similar,
but not identical to IUPAC 2.421 (IUPAC version requires a higher ignition temperature than the AOCS version.)
3 In general, methods are similar European methods specify different temperatures than US methods.
4 AOCS adopted Italian Standard Method, NGD C40-1976 in 1991, as AOCS Official Method, Ch 5-91.
5 AOCS adopted IUPAC Standard Method, 2.632 in 1991, as AOCS Official Method, Ca 18c-91.
6 MPOB test methods may not completely agree with AOCS methods. FOSFA recommends adoption of ISO/BS/
AOCS methods.
