Official Methods and Recommended Practices of the AOCS
LICENSE AGREEMENT
1. License
This License Agreement (hereafter the “Agreement”) grants the individual or organization
purchasing an applicable Subscription (as defined hereunder) (the “Licensee”) a limited,
non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access the electronic version of the Official
Methods and Recommended Practices of the AOCS (the “Publication”), subject to the
terms and conditions of this Agreement. By purchasing a Subscription, the Licensee is
subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement and payment of the applicable the
License Fee (as defined herein) as established by the American Oil Chemists’ Society
(hereinafter “the Publisher”).
2. Subscription Type and Authorized Access
This Agreement applies to the following subscription types (each a “Subscription”) offered
by the Publisher, including:
2a. Individual Subscription. Under the individual subscription, access to the Publication
is limited to a single individual via a specific email and password registered by the
Licensee.
2b. University/Government Subscription. Under the university/government subscription,
access to the Publication is granted to any user in any location using the same domain (i.e.,
@aocs.org) registered by the Licensee.
2c. Industry Global. Under the industry global subscription, access to the Publication is
granted to any user in any location using the same domain (i.e., @aocs.org) registered by
the Licensee.
Licensee is responsible for undertaking reasonable measures to prevent access by
unauthorized persons. Licensee shall immediately notify the Publisher if it becomes aware
of unauthorized access to the Official Methods and Recommended Practices of the
AOCS and shall cooperate in locating and attempting to stop the specific individuals who
are abusing the service. If the specific abuser cannot be identified or stopped, the
Publisher has the right to withhold, suspend, or terminate access within 30 days of
notification of the unauthorized access, without notice or liability.
3. License Definition, Duration &Payment
A License to the Official Methods and Recommended Practices of the AOCS provides
the Licensee electronic access to the Publication through the Publisher’s digital platform.
Once a Subscription is canceled, access to the Publication and the digital platform are
terminated.
The initial term of this Agreement shall commence when payment for the applicable
Subscription is received, and shall continue for a period of one year (the “Initial Term”),
unless terminated as provided herein. After the Initial Term, and upon payment of the
applicable License Fee (as defined herein) this License shall then automatically renew for
subsequent one-year terms (each a “Renewal Term”) unless otherwise terminated as
provided for herein.
The Licensee agrees to pay the Publisher the applicable license fee (the “License Fee”),
which Publisher shall specify (and which Publisher may change, from time to time and
without prior notice) for a term of one (1) year starting on the date of payment (Subscription
Period).
Upon receipt of a payment, access to the Publication will be activated.
At the end of the Initial Term or any subsequent Renewal Term, as the case may be, if the
applicable License Fee for the Renewal Term is not received at least 30 days prior to the
end of the current term, access to the methods database will be discontinued effective at
the end of that term. The Publisher reserves the right to modify the terms of this License for
any renewal period.
4. Permitted Use
Licensee may view, download, or print individual methods from the Publication for their
use in accordance with the terms of this Agreement.
5. Prohibited Use
Licensee agrees not to forward, transfer, sell, rent, or otherwise knowingly distribute or
provide access to the contents of the Publication or any portions thereof.
Information obtained from the Publication is not to be used for interlibrary loan, fee-for-
service purposes such as document delivery, and/or transmitted to non-subscribing
institutions or persons.
Use for the purposes of monetary reward by the Licensee by means of sale, resale, loan,
transfer, hire, or other form of exploitation of the Publication is prohibited. For the
avoidance of doubt, neither recovery of direct costs by the Licensee nor the use by the
Licensee of the Publication in the course of research funded by a commercial organization,
is deemed to be improper use.
Licensee agrees not to modify, alter, or create derivative works of the materials contained
in Publication without prior written permission from the Publisher.
Methods and other information obtained as a result of this license are not to be
systematically downloaded, re-published in any media, print or electronic form. Methods
may not be downloaded in aggregate quantities or centrally stored for later retrieval. The
Licensee shall not use robots, spiders, scripts, service, software, or any manual or
automatic device, tool, or process designed to data mine or scrape the Publication or its
contents, data or information from the Publication or its contents, or otherwise use,
access, or collect the Publication of its contents, data or information from the digital
